If someone has special needs, an overnight respite program can provide some much needed relief and give you time to de-stress and focus on your own needs. It's also a good idea to get your child used to staying overnight in a place other than home, in case an emergency should ever arise.
Emergency and short-term crisis respite may be available if you are unexpectedly unable to continue to care for someone.

Who is eligible for emergency respite?
Emergency respite care may be available to anyone who cares for a loved one, family member or friend in their home who has a disability and is funded by Division of Developmental Disabilities in Arizona. We also can accept private pay.
There are many different situations where emergency respite care might be available, including:
the death of a family member or close friend
if you or another dependent family member are ill or injured
an urgent situation that makes it difficult for you to fulfil your role as a caregiver.
How does emergency respite work?
The form of respite varies with the time, level and type of care needed:
For a few hours or overnight, in-home or center-based respite may be best.
For several days or more, respite away from home may be possible.
Prior to placing someone, we require emergency placement paperwork to be filled out with basic information for the person in need until we have a formal ISP from the Support Coordinator and authorization is put in place.
While emergency respite aims to give you the support you need as soon as possible, you may still have to provide some information to make sure the right type of care can be provided.
An assessment will usually involve an informal discussion with someone from the respite service. They may be able to make sure that both you and the person you care for get the support needed.
