At Embrace Life, the Deaf community has been heavily rooted in the growth of services since 2014. Deaf Advocacy has always been a passion as there are many Deaf members in the community who are isolated with services that do not provide full American Sign Language accessibility.
Embrace Life is an agency that has full American Sign Language accessibility for all levels, which makes our agency the only one with full accessibility in Arizona for this industry. This includes but is not limited to the chain of command, which provides administrative assistance, direct care workers, program management, director and executives. Embrace Life strongly provides opportunities for promotions within the agency for all including Deaf employees.
Embrace Life started with one Deaf residential home and has grown to a total of six different Deaf residential homes. Out of those six, four are fully Deaf accessible residential homes that have Deaf supervisors and Deaf/ASL accessible direct care workers. The other two programs are a mix of hearing and Deaf members. The programs are in the East Valley and Tucson. We also serve several Deaf members in the HCBS department statewide.
In addition to residential homes and HCBS, Embrace Life also has a Day program in the East Valley that is configured for the Deaf with Deaf direct care workers and Deaf members. Embrace Life has a Deaf Director who oversees the Deaf programs and provides support to both the direct care workers and the members with full communication. The Deaf Director is also always part of the hearing/Deaf mixed residential homes for visits, training of the direct care workers, and program meetings.
Embrace Life currently supports around 25 Deaf members and employs over 70 Deaf employees statewide. Embrace Life has additional roles such as the Trainer, Project Manager, Quality of Care Supervisor, Agency Compliance Officer and Owner who are all also Deaf!
